Different faiths, same values

According to organizers of “Langar for Needy” they [Glide Memorial Church] were very excited to have the Sikh community as a partner and are offering full support. Bruce McKinney, Coordinator at Glide Memorial, is looking forward to have some Indian food on the menu.

To commemorate the birth of Guru Nanak in 1469 (the founder of Sikhism), United Sikhs and the Fremont Gurdwara (Sikh temple) are partnering with San Francisco’s Glide Memorial Church to provide a free meal to the homeless and needy, in an event called “Langar for the Needy” on November 20.  Langar, which is a tradition and practice at every Gurdwara, is the offering of a free meal to any and all people, regardless of differences in background (ethnic, socioeconomic, racial, or otherwise).  All sit together as equals to partake of the meal.

It’s great to see different faith groups unite under the umbrella of common values.  It’s a win-win for all involved.
