The Sikh community in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, recently broke ground on a new, larger Gurdwara. The reason for the new facility is the growth of the Sikh population in the area:
We need a bigger building to accommodate people. We started out in 1983 with 10 families, about 35 people. We began to grow in the mid-1990s, and now we have about 110 people in our congregation. The new building will accommodate about 200 people.
It is anticipated that the new Gurdwara building will be open in 2013, with the old building to be used for a community purpose.
