According to CNN, Ishwar Singh, President of the Sikh Society of Central Florida, is to offer the Invocation on Wednesday night during the Republican National Convention. Given the recent discussion about perceptions of Republican voters towards Sikhs, and my own sense (expressed on Twitter above) that having a Sikh provide the Invocation at either party’s convention would be something of fantasy, I remain surprised.

If this turns out to be the case, it would be a touching gesture in the wake of the Wisconsin shooting on behalf of the Republican Party to the country’s Sikhs and other minorities.
