    This is so sad and frightening, recently an Indian man in Va was kinapped outside his gas station and found four days later dead with a bullet in his head. He was abducted outside his gas station. It is known that Va and NJ both have large hate groups. South Asians should voice concerns over these and I bet there are other stories, that I just haven’t come across like this. Gas stations and convienence stores workers seem to be targets for these groups. Praying for this young man and his family.

  2. What can I do to fight this? How can I make a difference? For instance, there is a gas station, a convenience store or some other business owned or operated by Sikhs that is open during dangerous hours or (heaven-forbid) another geopolitical event occurs?

    People need to let their curiosities MAKE the better of them and not be intoxicated by ignorance and indifference to the ways of others. Those in the Judeo-Christian continuum are most guilty of this. They hide behind certain commandments (not to inquire of how other peoples worship) so as not to carry out more important commands (i.e. not to stand by idly when a neighbor’s life is in jeopardy or to love one’s neighbor as oneself, etc.). Until recently, I was guilty of this.

    This will require community liasons to get this to work. I posit a “perpetual tailgate party” approach to security:

    * Well-built non-smoking men of the neighborhood. Off-duty police who are permitted to volunteer would be awesome. Wives with husbands may be OK, girlfriends NO. Must be respectful.

    * Lawn chairs.

    * Coffee pots, tea pots, healthy snacks, coolers with NON-ALCOHOLIC beverages, etc. No barbecues out of safety and respect.

    * Identifying markers such as orange/blue tee-shirts, jackets, bandhanas, caps, etc. Let good and especially the bad guys know what the purpose of the people there.

    * Cameras in all forms are encouraged, especially low light models for night work.

    * In states with welcoming firearm carry laws, pack as much heat as the law allows. The only problem is that the vast marjority of Sikhs live in states with restrictive laws on handgun carry. Must fast-track to citizenship and vote for people who will respect the Second Amendment.

    The police cannot be absolutely omnipresent. Death tends to act quicker than emergency personnel can arrive. Balbir proved it.
