Google Reader is shutting down on July 1. (Source: LifeHacker)
Many readers of American Turban automatically receive updates from this and other blogs using Google Reader, one of the most (if not the most) popular RSS feed readers on the internet. Its ease of use and cross-platform functionality made following many websites very easy and efficient.
If you are a Google Reader user, this is to remind you that Google is ending this service on July 1, after which date the service will be retired and you will no longer receive updates from this blog (or any other websites to which you have subscribed) using Google Reader.
However, there are a variety of alternatives to automatically receive updates from this blog:
- Receive updates from this blog by e-mail. See the “Subscribe” link at the bottom right of this page.
- Follow American Turban on Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr.
- The platform for this blog, WordPress, also offers a reader service called (not surprisingly) WordPress Reader, which will allow you to follow this and other websites.
- Use an alternative RSS reader service. LifeHacker provides a list of ten different alternative RSS reader apps that are among the most popular.
Google’s termination of Google Reader is certainly disappointing and a major disruption for those who use the service. If you use Google Reader, you will hopefully find one of the alternatives above a suitable way to continue to automatically receive updates from this blog.
If you do not use Google Reader to receive updates from this blog, your subscription should be unaffected.
