On February 3, the Sikh Gurdwara of Los Angeles (otherwise known as the Lankershim Gurdwara) in North Hollywood, California, is holding a public event in which members of the local Sikh community will share their stories:

Sikh American Stories—community, family and personal memories and narratives—will be presented in the Sikh Gurdwara of Los Angeles, North Hollywood, 7640 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood on February 3 at 1:30p.m. These stories were developed and collected in a three-month long oral history workshop conducted by playwright Henry Ong.

Henry Ong has completed similar oral history projects for other communities as well:

“These oral history projects are as much about my exploration of the various communities in which I live, as they are for the participants to express themselves and tell their stories,” said Ong.

For those in the Los Angeles, California, area, this event looks to be a unique opportunity to hear the stories from those who are often not heard. Find out more at the Sikh American Stories blog.
