The funeral service for Gurmej Atwal, the second victim of the Elk Grove, California shootings, took place last Saturday and was covered by local media. The Elk Grove Patch reports:
About 200 members of the Sikh and Sacramento community gathered Saturday afternoon at the Sacramento Memorial Lawn to mourn the death of Gurmej Atwal, one of two victims of the recent Sikh shooting.
Preceding Atwal’s cremation was a two-and-a-half-hour long memorial service, where family members, friends, members of the Sikh community and government officials paid their respects to Atwal…
Elk Grove Police Chief Robert Lehner, who also spoke at the funeral, promised the victims’ families that the department will keep on investigating and pursuing the double homicide case. Detectives have focused their investigation on a male shooter, possibly driving a tan Ford F150 pickup truck.
A photo gallery showing the service is available at the Sacramento Bee website.
I express my condolences to the family of Gurmej Atwal all the way from Toronto, Canada…I am very sorry for your loss, and the ignorance that’s overshadowed the American Sikh community…It hurts that small-minded people don’t know better because they are messed up, and not educated, and looking at them as terrorists because of the way they look.
