Picture of the Day: A new day for California’s Sikhs

At a rally at the California State Capitol on Saturday, Governor Jerry Brown signed two bills that would help combat discrimination particularly faced by Sikhs: the California Workplace Religious Freedom Act (AB1964) and the History-Social Science Framework (SB1540). “Know Your Rights” forum in Sacramento, CA this weekend

The Sikh Temple Sacramento is collaborating with SALDEF (Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund) to host a “Know Your Rights” forum this Sunday, July 29: The event is free and is a good opportunity for Sikh and other residents of the area to educate themselves about their civil rights. CA Sikhs to launch American Sikh Political Action Committee

Sikhs in California are launching a political action committee (known as a “PAC”) under the name American Sikh Political Action Committee to support the political efforts of California’s Sikh community. Reward increased to $35,000 in Balbir Singh Dhami murder case

Last year, Balbir Singh Dhami was shot and killed at his home in Sacramento, California. To date, no one has been arrested for the murder.
